Petanque (from the ancient Provence language "ped tanco" meaning feet on the ground).
Petanque is a French game similar in principle to the Italian game of Bocce with a couple of notable exceptions, the use of Steel Boules and playing on almost any surface except grass. It could best be descrbed as Extreme Bocce or Marbles for grown-up. It is fun and as addictive as golf so beware picking up that first boule. Petanque will re-focus your thoughts completely to the exclusion of all your daily stress and problems. Petanque is played by all ages (as long as you're able to pick a boule) regardless of gender and any other differences that make us all human. No need for any special phusical prowess either, except perhaps a reasonable eyesight. Beginners and Professional alike enjoy the game, whether for fun or outright competitiveness. Petanque is played one-on-one, doubles or threesome versions. Players become either Shooters, middle, or pointers according to their developing skills. A single is all that's needed to get you up and tossing, of course there is way more to get your fingers around until you become seasoned. No need for equipment either, we always have a spare set for a beginner or a visiting guest. Come along and play, you'll be hooked in no time! |
